Contrast therapy FAQ’S
-
A standard Fire & Ice session at The Spa at Yellow Creek lasts 45–60 minutes. This includes a 30-minute lead-in in our mPulse Infrared Sauna, followed by 2–3 minute cold plunge cycles and a final period of heat or rest. It’s the perfect high-impact wellness ritual that fits into a busy schedule.
-
It is a brisk challenge, but highly rewarding! We maintain our Cryo Cold Plunge between 42°F and 50°F. While the initial "cold shock" lasts about 30 seconds, it quickly triggers a massive release of endorphins and dopamine, leaving you feeling euphoric and energized rather than just "cold."
-
Unlike traditional saunas that just heat the air, our mPulse™ Infrared Smart Sauna uses 3-in-1 full-spectrum infrared technology. This penetrates deep into your joints and muscles to promote cellular repair and detoxification, perfectly prepping your body for the anti-inflammatory benefits of the cold plunge.
-
Absolutely. For the ultimate recovery day in Akron, we recommend pairing Fire & Ice with Halotherapy to clear your respiratory system or PEMF Cellular Stimulation to double down on pain relief and muscle recovery.
-
Safety and consistency. Our Cryo Plunge uses advanced ozone filtration and constant circulation to stay crystal clear and at a precise, therapeutic temperature. You get all the metabolic benefits without the mess or temperature fluctuations of a home ice bath.
-
We keep the water at a scientifically optimized 42°F–50°F. This range is specifically chosen to activate "cold-shock proteins" which help with muscle repair and immune support without over-stressing the body.
-
Yes. If you are visiting us in the evening, we actually recommend ending with the Infrared Sauna. Finishing with heat signals your nervous system to enter a "rest and digest" state, which promotes significantly deeper and more restorative sleep.
-
For peak mental clarity and inflammation management, 2–3 times per week is the "sweet spot." However, even a single session at our Akron wellness center can provide immediate relief from stress and muscle soreness.
-
Come well-hydrated! We recommend drinking plenty of water both before and after your session. Avoid heavy meals an hour prior. We provide the luxury robes, towels, and amenities—all you need to bring is swimwear and a desire to recharge.
-
Most guests wear swimwear or moisture-wicking athletic gear (shorts and a sports bra/tank). Since you will be transitioning from dry heat to water, choose something comfortable that you don't mind getting wet.
